Show I Board Approves New Teachers; Seven Vacancies Remain The Iron County Board of Edu-cation Edu-cation in meeting Monday approved ap-proved the appointment of a number of teachers .Jor the Iron County schools to fill vacancies caused by a number of resignations resigna-tions by members of last year's teaching staff. However, a number of vacancies vacan-cies remain to be filled, according accord-ing to Superintendent Ianthus Wright. Three vacancies remain In rural schools of the county, and there is a possibility that another teacher will be needed. The three vacancies are for a teacher of primary grades at the Kanarraville school, a primary grade teacher for the Beryl school, and a teacher for the school at Modena. The Modena school is a one teacher school and no one has been located to accept this position as yet, Mr. Wright says. Should a school be established at Newcastle this winter, a teacher must be employed for that position also. The state board of education has recommended recom-mended that the school at Newcastle New-castle not be opened this year, because there are too few students. stu-dents. However a definite decision deci-sion on the matter has not been reached by the board on the Newcastle situation. Four other vacancies exist, one in the Cedar high school, two in the Parowan high school, and one in the Cedar City elementary ele-mentary schools. The vacancy caused by the resignation of Alma Garrett, basketball coach at the Cedar City high school, has not yet been filled. Nineteen coaches from all parts of Utah, and at least two from out-of-state have applied for the position. Since that time, however, one of the applicants, Charles Woodbury formerly, of Cedar City, has accepted ac-cepted another position. Woodbury Wood-bury has accepted "a contract to coach football at Morgan high school. The two vacancies in the Parowan Paro-wan high school are in the Eng lish and home economics departments. de-partments. The vacancy in the English department was caused by the death of Mrs. Venice Decker an a recent automobile accident. The other was caused by the resignation of Mrs. Mona Reese. The vacancy in the Cedar Elementary Ele-mentary schools was caused by the resignation of Dixie Leavltt, fourth grade teacher, who resigned re-signed to enter the insurance business. |
