FENTON Two Cedar City attorneys have filed their candidacy for the position po-sition of District Attorney for the Fifth Judicial District to be filled at the election in November. Novem-ber. One of them will be unopposed unop-posed in the . primary election and will automatically become the Republican party's nominee for the position The other will have opposition and must win in a primary election before gaining a place on the election ballot. Patrick H. Fenton has filed as a Republican candidate for the post and will be Unopposed in the primary election. Orville Isom, the other local candidate, has filed on the Democratic Dem-ocratic ticket, and will be opposed op-posed for the nomination by Milton A. Melville of Fillmore. Mr. Melville was a last minute candidate. When the deadline for filing was past Saturday his designation of candidacy was not on file. However, it arrived at the state capitol Monday, and since it was postmarked Saturday, July 12, his candidacy was accepted. ac-cepted. They seek the office to be vacated va-cated by Ellis Pickett of St George after 20 years of continuous contin-uous service as attorney for the district which includes, Juab, Millard, Beaver, Iron and Washington Wash-ington counties. Mr. Pickett has filed as candidate for the State Senator from the 11th Senatorial district on the Democratic ticket i The Eleventh district includes Washington and Iron counties. Mr. Isom, who has served six years as City Attorney of Cedar City, and who has been practicing prac-ticing here since 1938, is a veteran vet-eran of World War II. He served as a member of the Marine Corps in the Pacific from 1943 to 1945. He is now serving the fourth year of a tertn on th Utah State Bar Commission as a representative represen-tative of the Fifth Judicial district dis-trict He is a native of Hurricane, and is a graduate of the Branch Agricultural college and the University Uni-versity of Utah. Mr. Fenton is a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was serving as city attorney for Cedar City when the National Guard was federalized and was given a leave of absence during his tour of duty In Korea.
