The cafe team broke a tie with the Columbia Co-lumbia Iron Mines team. The mines team ls still undefeated but played only one game this week, taking a 15 to 4 victory from Peoples Market after a shaky start. The El Rey team trimmed the Auto Parts team 13 to 2, for its first victory, but had a little more difficult time defeating Utah Construction, winning 9 to 5. Consistent hitting by the cafe batters against the offerings of Kay Boulter and Dave Cox, construction con-struction pitchers, was the margin mar-gin of victory. Alma Garrett and Vic Frie each got home runs for the victors. Mel Reeves did the pitching for El Rey. Utah Construction had won its game against Desert Mound earlier ear-lier in the week by a score of 9 to 4. This game would have been very close but for two costly errors er-rors by the Desert Mound play ers. Boulter did the pitching for Utah Construction, with Anthon Perry doing the chucking for the lasers. Desert Mound trimmed Bradshaw Chevrolet 14 to 5 last Friday. The Bradshaw Firestone team climbed into third nlace with two victories, a 9 to 3 win over the Auto Parts, and a 16 to 0 win over Peoples Marken. The latter game came very close to being a perfect performance by the Firestone Fire-stone team, and particularly for Boyd Whitby, pitcher. It was a no run, no hit, no error contest for the winners, and the only blemish on the entire performance perform-ance was a single walk issued by Whkby. The schedule for the coming week is as follows: Friday, June 29, Columbia vs Bradshaw Firestone, and Bradshaw Brad-shaw Chevrolet vs Utah Con struction. Monday, July 2, Bradshaw Chevrolet vs Columbia; Desert Mound vs El Rey Cafe. |
