Show Grandson of Cedar Couple Dies After Being Struck By Car Tragedy struck in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Keith Walker Walk-er of Washington, Utah, former Cedar City residents, when their five-year-old son, Lee Owen Walker, died on Wednesday. December 22, of injuries suffered suffer-ed when he was struck by an automobile on highway 91. The youngster was struck as he dashed dash-ed across the street Tuesday. He was taken to the hospital in St. George for treatment and his condition was pronounced as good Tuesday afternoon. During the night his condition became worse and he succumbed to the injuries Wednesday. Driver of the car that struck the lad was Fred Thunell, 57, of Salt Lake City. Sheriff Antone B. Prince who investigated the accident, acci-dent, reported that Mr. Thunell Thun-ell was driving at a moderate rate of speed and termed the accident ac-cident as unavoidable. The lad had gone to meet his older brother, who reported that he saw the car approaching and attempted to stop his little brother bro-ther from crossing the street but he broke away and ran in front of the automobile. Mrs. Margaret Thunell, 54, who was riding with her husband, was also taken to the hospital for treatment for shock but was released the next day. The death of the boy brought Utah's traffic fatality record for the year up to 216, equalling the previously high record In the history of the state. Funeral services were conducted conduct-ed in Washington Friday afternoon, after-noon, the day before Christmas. The victim was born June 21, 1913 in St. George, a son of Donald Don-ald Keith and Mona Turn-beaugh Turn-beaugh Walker. Surviving are his parents and his brother. Jay Dee Walker, of Washington, and three grandparents, grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Walker, Cedar City, and Mrs. J. E. Turnbeaugh Washington. |
