Show Basketball Play in Dixie Division Starts January 7 The Dixie division high school basketball race will get underway under-way next Friday night, January 7, and oddly enough last year's division champions and runners-up, runners-up, Hurricane and Cedar, respectively, respect-ively, will tangle on the first nifht of Dlav. The Hurricane Typhoons will Invade the Cedar gym for the first game against the Redmen. In other opening games Kanab will meet Valley High at Order-vllle, Order-vllle, and Enterprise will meet Dixie at St. George. Parowan has been transferred to the Millard division this year, and will compete com-pete with Milford, Beaver, Fillmore, Fill-more, Hinckley and Delta. Coach Quill Allen has developed develop-ed a smooth working squad at the Redmen school this year, anil many fans expect to see the local team walk off with the division title and a berth in the state tournament In March. However, competition will be keen and the Redmen must be at their best throughout the season to walk off with the title. Coach Allen has three letter-1 men back from last year, and they form the nucleus of what should be a powerful team. The Three Include Boyd "Goonie" Adams, hot-shot forward, Gail Wlnterrose, lengthy and consistent consist-ent center, and Richard South-wick, South-wick, rangy guard who Is developing de-veloping fast. Jimmy Watson will probably get the other starting start-ing position at guard, with Bud Bauer, younger brother of Denton Den-ton and Arland Bauer, former Redmen stars, probably teaming with Adams on the forward line. Considerable reserve strength will be available with Delias Im-lay Im-lay and Gaylen Berry ready for service at forward, Clesson Bauer and Willard Gardner at guard and Donald Jones at center. |
