Show Fuel Oil Fed Fire Threatens Cedar Business Block A fire which Fire chief M. P. Grames estimated caused between be-tween $500 and $GO0 in damage, hit the building which houses the Lunt Hotel, Cedar Motor Co. and several other businesses on Tuesday afternoon, and could have turned into a more disastrous disas-trous conflagration but for the good work of the city fire de partment. The fire, fed by burn lng fuel oil in the furnace room of the building, was confined there by the use of "Fog" one of the fire exUngulshers with which the city fire department is equipped. According to Chief Grames, the fire started when a fuel oil line which was being used to fill the storage tanks for the furnace, was left unattended, came out and filled the room with several . Inches of fuel oil. This oil reached reach-ed the furnace burners, and when they came on, ignited, filling the room with flames. The fire de- ' partment reached the scene In record time and Mr. ' Grames had to don an asbestos suit and enter the furnace room in order to fight the fire. Even then it took three or four hours to completely extlng- ulsh the fire, but the damage was confined to the furnace room and furnace, with no flames or smoke damage resulting In other parts of the building. |
