Show 1 Government Needs Young Women For Stenographers The U. S. Civil Service Commission Commis-sion is greatly concerned because of the refusal of young women to accept Jobs as stenographers and typists in Washington. D. C, as the lack of a sufficient number or women to fill these positions is definitely def-initely handicapping our war effort. ef-fort. Women stenographers and typ-i.its typ-i.its are urgently needed to fill positions posi-tions in various government departments depart-ments in Washington. It is the responsibility of the young women of America to do their part to bring about a speedy victory and tills can only be accomplished if everyone is willing to serve in the position where she is most urgently needed and for which she is best qualified. The problem of transportation ft Washington and the erroneous report re-port of the high cost of living may be the reason many young women have not applied for these positions. Several agencies have been established estab-lished in the capitol to assist newcomers new-comers in making living arrangements arrange-ments and a recent survey shows that living cost are very little. It any, higher than in such other cities as San Francisco and New York. Requirements have been cut tj a minimum and today immediate appointment will be given to women, wo-men, who are able to pass an examination. ex-amination. Women must be 18 years old or over to qualify.
