Show Registration For Sugar Rationing Will Conclude Tonight Residents of Cedar City have tUxed to the elementary school buildup during the afternoon of the past three days to secure their rationing boolis in order to be able to purchase sugar and other articles that may come under the rationing ration-ing plan in the near future. The registration has been done by the teachers cf the elpmenltary school under the direction of Principal Prin-cipal Oscar J. Hulet and have done an excellent Job, gladly contributing contribut-ing their time and services to UiLs necessary governmental undertaking. undertak-ing. The registrars report that the response and attitude of the people has been very comendable, practically practi-cally everyone applying for rationing ration-ing books showing a cooperative spirit and a willingness to meet with the regulations formulated by the government. Nearly everyone reported re-ported the needed information, greatly facilitating the registration. The registration continues unlil tonight, and by that time everyone must have registered or else lose the privilege of purchasing rationed articles. art-icles. When Uie registration booths closed last night a total of 3.923 people had applied for rationing books, and 2,752 books were issued. This means that approximately 1050 people must register today, since there ls a population of nearly 50U0 In the area assigned to the Cedar City schools. All other towns In the county are reporting a cooiierattve respond similar to that found In Cedar City, and little difficulty ls expected completing the registration by tonight. to-night. Complete detailed reports from the entire county are not yet available. Under the rationing plan one ration ra-tion bok is given to each member of a family, and each stamp In each book will permit the purchase of one pound of sugar. Thus, If a housewife in a family of four takes her four rationing books to the grocery store, she may purchase four pounds of sugar. Each book contains 28 stamps not necessarily sugar rationing stamps, but rationing stamps for any commodity which may come under wartime restrictions. The first four stamps In each, book are the only stamps which the government has declared valid to the present date. Each of these authorizes a grocer to sell one pound of sugar, If the stamp Is tendered during the period In which It Is valid. Stamp No. 1 Is valid from May 5 to May 1G; No. 2, May 17 to May 31; No. 3, May 31 to June 13; and No. 4, June 14 to June 7. At a future date the government will declare what Stamp No. 5 and other stamps In the book are to be used for and will also fix dates when these will be valid. At the present time, Stamps Nos. 5 to 28 are not valid, but they should bj guarded as money because of their value in the future. |
