Show St. George Youth Killed In Action According to an announcement Issued by the War Department on Monday, another Southern Utah youth has been added to the ever lengthening list of casualties of World War II. The latest victim was Lt. Wesley Blake Empey, son of Mrs. Kate B. Empey of St. George, who was reported killed In the central Pacific area on January Janu-ary 16. Lt. Empey was born April 19, 1942, In St. Oeorge, a son of Martin Jcecph and Kate Blake Empey. He attended St. Oeorge schools and was graduated from the Dlxe Junior College, where he was prominent In athletics. i After enlisting; In the army on January 15, 1942, he was sent to Vlsalla, California, for primary flight training; then to Bakersfleld, California, for basic tralntng. He received his wings and commission at Luke Field, Arizona, in August, 1942. Survivors Include his motlier, a brother, Martyn Lynne Empey, and grandmother, Mrs. Alice Blake, all of St. George. |
