Show h Looks Like a Certainty H From the encouraging reports that continue to H come to us of the.formation and capitalization of H a gigantic company to utilize the wonderful de-H de-H posits of iron that have lain dormant in this H county for countless ages past, it looks as if the H present project would be a "sure go." There H have beenjso many excitements along this line in H . the past, of which no good has come that the peo-H peo-H pie are very skeptical, and not many will believe H that the time has really come for the long prom-H prom-H ised awakening, until work actually begins. H But all the conditions point to the fact that the H time is ripe for such an awakening." The tremon-H tremon-H dous and ever-increasing consumption of iron, W the completion of tho Panama canal, which will be H;i sure to bring a great increase of population to the Hj West, the immense fortunes that have been H' amassed in the iron and steel industry, showing H' -m it to be highly lucrative-, and the difficulty of finds' find-s' ing probable investment for largo capital, all H. point to the fact that this important opportunity H cannot be passed up much longer. H Atided to the foregoing the personnel of the w men behind the present undertaking and the HI aggressive, busiries-like way in which they are H going about it, without asking the consent of the Hr existing foundries or railroads, inspires confidence H that they mean business, and that they have Hi the courage to prosecute the undertaking to a H successful conclusion. H As to where the steel mills are to be located, H, does not vitally concern the people of this locality. H t Of course, we would prefer to . see them bujlt H within the state, but it is hardly to be expected H that the entire works will ever be established H - - .. within Iron county. Such an industry would H mean the establishment of a city of at least 100,- H 000, and there is not sufficient water here for the enterprise. At least, this is what tho engineers all tell us. But it is equally certain that the foundries and furnaces required to reduce the crude material to pig iron, Will be located here, and this with the mining and transporting of the iron will require considerable popualtion, and will develop pay rolls that cannot fail to have a very beneficial effect upon business and trade. It will also be certain to bring to us one or more railroads, rail-roads, which will supply means for tansportation for our commodities, and will develop the agricul1 tural and other industries of the county. 'Taken all together, we believe that the people of Iron county and southern Utah in general have reason to congratulate themselves upon the encouraging en-couraging outlook. |
