Show FINE APPLES GROWN ON CEDAR CITY TREES Tuesday, November 18. was Apple Day in Utah. S. W. Leigh seemed to be the only one m Iron county who took any notice of it, his observance being be-ing in bringing to The Record" office some fine apples of the Ra'mbo and Spitzbergen variety. They were grown within the limits of Cedar City. Mr. Leigh is county horticultural horticul-tural inspector and tried to set a good example for vhis neighbors. neigh-bors. He took care of his apple trees and sprayed twice, once after the blossoms calrae and again about seven days after thq first spraying. His fruit shows the result of his care. It has now been demostrated that as good apples can be grown in Irpn county as in any section of the west. But good results cannot be attained unless proper care is taken of the trees at the right time and in a scientific, up-to-date manner. It is latbor lost for a man to spray his orchard and keep the injurious pests away from his trees unless 'his neighbors treat theirs jn a similar manner' for the insects migrate so easily that they can destroy an orchard that has been well taken care of before the owner is aware of it. To protect the trees that are well taken care of from the insects in-sects that will come from orchards orch-ards that are neglected, the county inspector will next year enforce the state law as to spraying. spray-ing. It will be for the benefit of all and no person must consider con-sider any hardship is being worked upon him. |
