Show LEAGUE OF HOLY CROSS ORGANIZED" Principal Object is to Pledge Boys to Abstain From Intoxicants and to Not Swear. ' At the cathedral last Sunday, Rt. Rev. Scanlan preached the sermon, and in announcing a meeting of boys to be held at the church during the afternoon, after-noon, the bishop dwelt upon its object. Only two weeks ago. he said, ma.ny boys received grace through the sacrament of confirmation. This carried the promise prom-ise of faith and grace to make them Christian soldiers in the army of the Lord. Now they would be organized into a league to promote morality and make them useful members of society and the faith they profess. "Parents should be most interested in the efforts the church makes to train the conscience of the youth to teach children justice, honesty and purity. All of us are interested, because we like to be surrounded by good society. The foundation, the source of good or of evil in society is traced to the homo. .If that is bad. the children are bad. vAt home is where the evil must be uprooted. uproot-ed. If you observe a stream of muddy water descending from the mountain, all your efforts to render it pure are unavailing un-availing until you go to the source of the stream and remove the first cause." Rev. Father Deneaf is entrusted with the work of organizing the boys of-the parish into the "League of the Holy Cross." The principal object is to abstain ab-stain from intoxicants until the boy reaches his majority: and to help him in this resolve he takes a solemn pledge of total abstinence. A similar pledge is given never to invoke God's name in blasphemy. The league is .intended to promote a clean life, so that the boy may grow up to moral manhood. |
