Show CATHOLIC CERTAINTY. Rev. John M. Charleston, formerly Presbyterian parish minister of Thornliebank. has just been appointed ap-pointed by the Archbishop of Glasgow to the pastorate pas-torate of Croy, an important and populous parish in the archdiocese. Father Charleson was converted convert-ed to the faith about six years ago. and has published pub-lished an extremely interesting account of the steps which led to this happy event. After his reception re-ception into the church he went to Rome, and for several years studied at the Scots college. He was ordained in the Church of St. John Lateran by Cardinal Respighi. vicar of Rome, on Ember Saturday- of Advent. 1004; and said his first mass in St. Andrea delle Frate the Scottish church of mediaeval me-diaeval Rome at the altar of Our Lady of the Immaculate Im-maculate Conception, which was made famous sixty-five years ago by the sudden conversion of Al-phonse Al-phonse Ratisbonne, a bigoted Jew. through an apparition ap-parition of the Immaculate Mother beside this altar. al-tar. In Father Charleson's first sermon to his new parishioners he described the circumstances that led to his conversion. His closing words of thankfulness thank-fulness are worthy to be spread far and wide: "Tn exchange for the shadow he hath given me the, substance; sub-stance; instead of the merely human notions of Protestantism he. has ven me divine faith; instead in-stead of the old doubt he-Jias given me Catholic certainty." cer-tainty."
