Show j ASPEN, COLO. St. Mary"s Church, Its Spiritual Growth and Material Improvement. (Special Correspondence.) Aspen, Aug. 27. St. Mary's church is actually showing a great deal of life and vigor. The mission preached by the Redemptorist Fathers has attracted at-tracted great numbers to the church every day during the past week. The spiritual life of the congregation has been revived. One of the results of the mission has been the organization of the Society of the Holy Name, in which the Catholic men of this community com-munity have solemnly promised to do all in their power through example and influence to destroy the pernicious custom of cursing and swearing. This society also aims to do away with all immodest, indecent as well as pro-lane pro-lane language. This effort should be appreciated by all well thinking people. peo-ple. After the last Mass on this second Sunday of the mission a large number num-ber of gentlemen were solemnly received re-ceived into the Holy Name society. It was truly edifying to hear them pronounce pro-nounce the solemn act of consecration. The Holy Name society will bring many blessings to the individual members mem-bers and to the parish at large. In the evening at 7:30 o'clock the mission was solemnly closed. After the sermon the papal benediction was given, followed by benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Benediction over, the choir sang the hymn of thanksgiving. thanksgiv-ing. '-Holy God. We Praise Thy Name," and thus ended St. Mary's very successful mission. The missionaries were Rev. Thomas P. Brown. C. SS. R.. and Rev. Henry J. Guenther, C. SS. R both of Denver. Den-ver. Along with the spiritual progress made by the members of St. Mary's church may also be noticed the many and substantial improvements made on the church property. The main en-tiance en-tiance has been enlarged and commodious commo-dious steps lead you to the main building. build-ing. The first story is well ventilated and has finely equipped school rooms. The staff of St. Mary's school this year will be composed of four excellent class teachers, besides a very competent music mu-sic teacher. The second story is the church proper, prop-er, and we may say that it is one of the neatest and finest churches in the west. The roof has lately been repaired re-paired at a cost of $300, and soon the whole building will be turned over to the painters, who will make it one of the most attractive buildings in Aspen. Father Dilly and his people are to be congratulated on the great work being done. |
