Show ' ST. ANN'S ORPHANAGE. Income From Phelan Estate Ample For Present Support. St. Ann's orphanage, the title to which is now vested in Bishop Scanlan. Scan-lan. as trustee for the Catholic church in this diocese, will in all probability be incorporated at an early date. This action is necessitated in a measure by the terms of the will of the late Patrick Phelan, in which he bequeathed his entire en-tire estate, valued at over $76,000. to an incorporation to be hereafter formed for the 'puroose of controlling the fund. The trustees named by Mr. Phelan are Judge W. C. Hall, Bishop Scanlan and Stephen Hayes, and they could form the incorporation themselves, it is said, but it is understood that the orphanage orphan-age itself will be incorporated, and it is presumed that the trustees of the es tate will be included in the directorate, with Bishop Scanlan as president. Regarding the uses to which the fund will be applied. Bishop Scanlan said last evening that it was the present intention to use only the interest and this he believed would make the institution insti-tution practically self-supporting. At this time there is abundant room for the children at the orphanage, and no i improvements are needed at present that would require any large outlay. As to the disposition of the estate. Bishoo Scanlan was not prepared to sav. as he and his co-trustees have not yet arrived at a decision in the matter.. mat-ter.. At present the estate is bringing in a good return upon the valuation, and it Is possible that the realty will not be converted into cash for some time vet. V |
