Show PUEBLO. Features Proposed For Festival In Aid of St. Ignatius Church. The committee on arrangements of the proposed festival to be given for the benefit ben-efit of St. Ignatius' church report cvery- I thing most progressive along every lin--. Besides the general custom and ways : I conducting the like entertainments in the wav of assuring success, there are connected con-nected with this one means which, when handled rightlv, must prove a valuaol-aid valuaol-aid in its way. There are a nvmber ot contests between persons who claim per- , sonai skill and faculty alonu this line. ! The first and foremost may be mentioned men-tioned the contest for a conductor's silver lantern. The popular contestant are M. Oarett, conductor on the Denver & Rio Grande railroad, and his opponent In the ease Is J. II. McDonald of the Santa I' e railroad. The wide acquaintance and popularity of these gentlemen are sut-licient sut-licient to' guarantee a lively race. The second contest is that of a gold-headed gold-headed cane to be awarded to the most popular gatekeeper of the Pueblo smelter and the steel works. Joseph Otsonki holds the fort at the first named institution, insti-tution, while W. F. Mudd represents the latter. A hnndsome sideboard is being contested con-tested for bv Mesdames West and Will Walker. Neither are the little folks left out. as the little Misses May Arnold and Anna Spencer are in the race for an elegant child's doll. Another contest that has sprung up is that of Masters Johnnie Campbell and Alphonso Weile for a suit of clothes. Manv of the interesting features in connection with the proposed entertainment entertain-ment will be mentioned later, which, in connection witli the above, will have ample time to be worked to advantage, especially since the entertainment will not be given until toward the end of the present month. This festival will bo given In the Board of Trade hall and will begin on Tuesday evening. Tho com-mittcw? com-mittcw? on arrangements has mapped out this week's work, which is not inconsiderable, inconsid-erable, and as the time shortens will bo energetically pushed to a successful finish. Wednesday night at Board of Trade hall the second annual bazaar of St. Bonifice church was opened. It will continue four days and it is promised that former efforts in this line will be ecliDsed. F. R. McAliney delivered the opening address on the first night there was a number of small raffles. There will be three contests for prizes and dancing danc-ing will be the principal amusements. Elaborate preparations have been made to make the affaina success and it is expected that the capacity of the hall will be taxed. |
