Show Utah Exempt From Fertilizer Ceiling Utah was one of several western states exempted from a price ceiling ceil-ing on three nitrogen fertilizers established Friday by the office of price administration in Washington. Washing-ton. A ceiling in the western states awaits completion of a survey of the present price structure, the OPA announced. The three fertilizers affected by maximum price regulation 10S effective ef-fective March 23 are, soda, sulphate sul-phate of ammonia and cyanamide. They are used chiefly in growing such crops as cotton, sugar, corn and vegetables. A combination of limited supplies sup-plies and increased farmer demand has contributed to a scarcity of these fertilizers. Acting OPA administrator, John E. Hamm. said -Many complaints have been received from farmers and other persons clearly indicating indicat-ing that these materials are being be-ing offered in many instances at speculative and exorbitant levels. Not only have the margins of certain cer-tain mixers, agents and dealers risen, but they are threatening to rise further. While there is no current indication indica-tion that producers prices for the three fertilizers may arise, OPA is carefully watching producers prices and approprite action will be taken if it should appear that increases are contemplated. |
