Show "Cemetery Day" Grand Success "Cemetery day," observed in Gunnison Gun-nison last Saturday, proved one of the most successful ventures ever held here. At the appointed hour all of the business houses and banks closed the doors of their respective places and more than sixty gathered at the cemetery and gave the place a thorough cleaning of weeds and rubbish that had been accumulating for many years past. The stores closed at 9 o'clock in the morning and remained closed until 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Men and boys, with rakes and hoes, and men with teams, scrapers and drags, were present, and practically the entire en-tire plot of the cemetery was gone over in splendid and effective shape, and the plance now presents a decided decid-ed change. Eighteen Boy Scouts, comprising practically all of the battalion of Gunnison, turned out and did yeoman yeo-man service. The troopers were here and there and everywhere, and aided very materially in carrying out the work. The youngsters, however, were not all that .worked diligently. Everyone present lent a helping hand. It is proposed, now that the day proved so highly successful, to make the "Cemetery day" an annual event and to this end plans are being made to declare another holiday some time during the coming spring and again go over the cemetery. The committees having the work in charge feel grateful to the response of the citizens and through the columns col-umns of The News they desire to extend ex-tend the heartiest thanks to all who assisted in the work. |
