Show Kings Down Manti In 3-Game Series The Gunnison Kings and the Manti Abstractors put on another exhibition exhibi-tion of classy baseball last Sunday afternoon af-ternoon on the local diamond, and it took twelve innings to decide the victors of th9 three-match game. It was the final in the three games and with each a game to its credit, everybody every-body was out for "blood," for the final. When the sun was setting low and all players about "in" Gunnison put over the winning run, ending the fracas with a Bcore of nine to eight. It was some game and none in the Pacific Coast league l.ve done better bet-ter this season. But it looked bad at the opening for the Kings. Dick Daly, manager for the Manti boys, three of which are "imports", started start-ed out with an offensive batting streak that looked "scarry." And, too, Fredrickson, pitching for Gunnison Gun-nison had not awakened sufficiently for the first four innings and the visitors yanked out seven runs. In the four innings Manti snagged nine safe hits and crossed the home plate with seven passengers. During this performance Fredrickson was credited credit-ed with striking out two men. Manager Jones for tho Kings, set off the alarm clock at the opening of the third inning and the battle was on Gunnison was awake. Up to this inning, Daunt Sanders playing 1000 per cent baseball, was the only one that had made a show, and this was in the first time up. Sanders clouted one deep into right field and made a clean circuit before the ball w7as fielded in. This was the only home-run of the game. Out of six times at the bat Sanders secured four safe hits and stood for two strikeouts. strike-outs. Beginning at their half of the third inning the Kings stepped lively, winding up with four runs. In the fourth they slipped across two more and the score was tied. From the fourth until the ninth neither team was able to tally. When Manti went to the bat in the ninth, Rudeen swatted swat-ted a two-bagger and came in on a safe hit by Patton. This ended Manti's chances as the visitors failed to gain another run, and ended the three last innings with nothing. In the ninth Dick Pace lifted the "pill" into the centerfield and into the hanCs of Braithwaite, playing that position. Manager Jones faced the pitcher, landed for a safe hit and later stole to second. He made home when Sanders hit a safe one to right field. After this performance the Kings rested until the twelfth and when three hits were bunched by Edwards, Larson and High Halver-son, Halver-son, Edwards crossed home and the game ended. Roach, one of the imports for Manti, Man-ti, started the pitching for the visitors. visit-ors. In the third and after the Kings bad "sounded" his deep ones, he was efective only for a short time, how- , ever, and the Kings walked away with a mighty good game the visitors visit-ors showing almost as good as the locals.
