The interagency committee is composed of representatives from the U.S. Forest Service, the Utah Division of Wildlife Services, and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Utah has a unique system of setting big game hunts. The public meetings are actually held by the Board of Big Game Control. This five-member board is appointed by the governor. Board members represent the public land sector, the state's sportemens organizations, the cattlemens associations, the wooldgrowers associations, and the State Division of Wildlife Resources. The director of the DWR serves as chairman, but is a non-voting member except to break a tie. Local interagency recommendations recom-mendations for this year's big game hunt are as follows: Paunsagunt deer unit, 200 limited enlry permits; Antimony deer unit (Mt. Dutton), buck only with 75 pre-season and 100 post-season antlerless permits in the area around the fields of Antimony; Parowan deer unit, buck only with 600 antlerless post-season permits along the foothills from Cedar City to U-20; South Boulder deer unit, buck only. The general deer season is set for Oct. 19 through Oct. 29. The archery season would be Aug. 17 through Sept. 2. The muzzleloader season would be November 2-10. Recommendations for the elk hunt are: Mt. Dutton elk unit, open bull restricted to branched antlers with 30 antlerless permits on the south portion of the unit; Boulder elk unit, open bull with 30 antlerless postseason post-season permits in the - area of Boulder; Beaver Mountain elk unit, open bull, branched antlered. All three elk hunts are set for Oct. 2 through 15. On the Panguitch Lake elk unit, 10 bull permits are recommended. The DWR and BLM recommend Sept. 14-20 14-20 and the USFS recommends Oct. 2-15. 2-15. In addition, two new elk units have been proposed: Paunsagunt elk unit, 10 bull permits recommended by the DWR with hunting dates set for Sept. 14-20. The USFS and BLM have recommended against establishing an elk unit on the Paunsagunt. The Several public meetings held throughout the state will give an opportuntity for Interested sportsmen sport-smen to comment on proposed recommendations for the 1905 big game hunts. In southern Utah, meetings will be held at St. George and Salina. The St. George meeting is set for June 3 at the City Office building. The Salina location is the American Legion Hall on June 4. Both meetings will begin at 7 p.m. At each meeting, the interagency recommendation will be presented for each deer, elk, antelope, and big horn sheep unit. Those in attendance will be given an opportunity to express ex-press their feelings regarding the recommendations. A year round effort is required to gather the necessary data needed by local members of the interagency committees.
