Show Escalante Events Marilyn Jackson The decision to improve the Burr Trail was most welcome, and to those who have worked so hard, "success is its own reward." A new crop of hay is underway and Barry Barnson took a semi-load to market. Dirk Durfey and Eva Marie Crosby were married in the St. George LDS Temple Friday. Bishop and Mrs. Myron Cottam, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Cottam, Mr. and Mrs. LoRell Munson, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Brent Cottam, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Simons, and Mr. and Mrs. Quay Simons joined the family members there. The Quay Simons family went to Las Vegas for part of the week, returning to St. George for the Durfey wedding then to Cedar City where Carol Simons will attend college. The MIA girls returned from their trip to St. George. The 30 girls had raised money from bake sales and car washes which covered their expenses, and with chaperones Susan Wilson, Marlene Stowe, Dorothy Simpson, Deanna Moore, Peggy Pratt, Carol Simons and Barbara Munson the group toured the Brigham Young winter home, the Jacob Hamblin home, the LDS Temple visitor center, DUP museum, mu-seum, and still had plenty of time for shows and shopping. Reed Munson made a trip to Salt Lake City for building materials materi-als and brought back Stanford Munson's two older daughters Tal-isha Tal-isha and Lachelle for a stay with their grandparents. Adam Crump of Bennion is spending a couple of weeks with grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Max Porter. Amber Griffin has nephew Kay Bushnell of Bountiful staying with her family this week. The Orvil Cowles have granddaughter grand-daughter Donna Cowles of Cedar Cily with them. Tom Jackson brought his prize horses home from Las Vegas. Their pedigrees and special talents will be a new challenge for the Jackson family. City officials throughout the state met at Lagoon with their families. Marlene Stowe and boys and Carol Simons and her sister were there. They report seeing former for-mer superintendent Henry Jolley and family. Virginia Bauer and Michelle Marsh accompanied Kathleen Woolsey from Cedar City for a few days to celebrate Thelma Marsh's birthday. They met Mr. and Mrs. Rick Woolsey here. Virginia's grandson-in-law Todd Thorley was also here. He is an industrial arts teacher at Parowan High School and is working with the company contracting con-tracting the carpentry and cabinets at the new high school. Anne Spencer spent the week in Salt Lake City attending workshops and schooling. Ken Schow is convalescing con-valescing from a broken rib which occurred when he tried to help a friend loosen a sprinkler when the wrench loosened him instead. South Central Utah Telephone took advantage of the unsettled streets, digging another trench. They are installing a bigger line to service the residents of the South field area. A bus load of students has been traveling to Panguitch for swimming swim-ming lessons this week. Pat Sorenson learned of the marriage of her brother Bud Revord and Montel Jordan Thursday at a beach resort in Florida. His children came from Michigan to join her family in Florida and hosted a real celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Mason Lyman went to Park City to celebrate an anniversary and to hear Dan Fogel-bcrg Fogel-bcrg perform there. Shelly Barney picked up mother Berthene Griffin in Henrieville and went north for a Griffin family reunion. re-union. The senior citizen bus went to Richfield Friday. LoReta Spencer rode the bus down and brought a new car home. Hilda Roundy went with the group and stayed for the mission testimonial of grandson Dean Roundy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Dean Roundy who leaves June 15 for Des Moines, Iowa. Others attending the testimonial were Deon Alvey, Mr. and Mrs. Starns Mecham, Pauline Lott, Mr. and Mrs. Lane Listen and Mr. and Mrs. Claron Griffin. The Jim Spencer family of Orem including the John Spencers and Jeff Olsens had been visiting relatives here and doing some fishing at North Creek. They joined the Claron Griffin family at the testimonial, too. Mr. and Mrs. Vergean Porter have two of their grandchildren with them while Mr. and Mrs. Sloan Porter take the two older children to Disneyland. Orilla Cowles and her family are elated to have the Alvin Cowles family nearer. They have moved to Richfield where he purchased the KOA campground. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Porter came from Mesa, Ariz., for several days. Their son Brent Porter thrilled the congregation Sunday with a beautiful beauti-ful vocal number. He brought a friend Bonnie Bierman to see the area. Donna Bailey is in Montana seeing relatives there. Mr. and Mrs. Sherral Davis came from Rexburg to spend some time with the Twila Mclnelly family. fam-ily. The William Mitchell family gathered here for their family reunion. re-union. Among those attending were the Theron Mitchells and Garlan Mitchells of Cedar City and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bailey, Barbara Bailey, Keith Bailey, and Sheila Bailey of Sandy. The Boulder and Escalante EMTs joined Sheriffs Department personnel for training on a mock disaster drill at Hell's Backbone. Raymond Griffin and Sharon Griffin came from Sevier County meeting father Vernon Griffin and brother Alan Griffin at Lower Bowns for fishing. LDS baptismal services were held this week for Dustin Shake-spear, Shake-spear, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shakespear, who had both grandfather grandfa-ther Vernon Spencer and grandfather "R" Shakespear of Tropic on hand; Ruth Ellen Crawford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Crawford and Lynn Barney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Barney. Vernon Reid and children spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Rex Masters helping with spring work while wife Janis Reid attended to gardens in Boulder. Tom Hansen celebrated Father's Day early with a new pickup. Mr. and Mrs. Rick Haws' are home for the summer with the Klyn Haws. They also enjoyed son-in-law John Sorenson who is working with the plumbing on the new high school. He and Jillyn Haws were married in April. They reside in Salina where she is employed em-ployed at a Quick-Stop while he's here working. Arlene Elmer and family visited Marie Hall. They came from New York after hearing of the death of her husband John Elmer's mother. A combined wards budget pot luck dinner will be tomorrow night with entertainment. |
