Show February Snow Pack 150 Above Average ; " "'Snowpack" for February"! was 150 ' percent, of average on Garfield County watersheds according to Howard Roper of the Panguitch office of the Soil Conservation Service Snow surveys conducted the last week of January show slightly above the 1961-1980 averages, he said. For Castle Valley, there were 39 inches of snow with 10.9 inches of water compared with 53 and 13.9 inches respectively last year. These compare with the 7.5 inches of water average. Panguitch Lake shows 20 lunches of snow and 4.9 inches of wtaer. There was no data available from 1984, however, the average is 4.9 inches of water. Duck Creek reports 45 inches of snow and 12.2 inches of water. In 1984 there were 58 and 15.2 inches respectively with an average of 8.0 "inches of water. At Tod's Junction on January 29, there were 25 inches of snow and 6.9 inches of water. Last year showed 34 inches of snow and 8.7 inches of water with an average of 3.2 inches of water. Bryce Canyon on January 31 had 23 inches of snow and 4.9 inches of water, while last year Bryce reported 31 and 6.8 inches respectively. Widtsoe Summit had 37 inches of snow and 8.5 inches of water. Last February it reported 44 and 9.5 inches respectively. Panguitch Lake currently contains 19,968 acre-feet or 20.25 feet on the gauge. Roper reported that Garfield County can expect a near normal runoff this spring given a normal spring precipitation accumulation. |
