Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ron Brubaker are their son, John, his wife, Sharon and three of their four children, Tyler, Texas. The Quay Simons family attended the Simons reunion in Payson Canyon. Recently six miles of the highway between Pet's Hollow and town have been chipped and resurfaced. Instead of "'dragging main", the new expression is "flippin' chips" with care. It will be better through the winter. Fay Alvey attended the funeral services for her aunt, Mame Swapp who was 4. She spoke at the services which were In St. George. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kuhns had their family home for the bow hunt. Son, Jim, daughter, Molly Morgan and daughter-in-law, Roberta Kuhns came for the event. The mobile home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cottam is being moved to the lot across from his parents beside the Alvey stables. The Ron Beebe family had a week-long visit from daughter, Nancy Hallows and baby Lacy, Loa. They have been repainting their home and constructing a new front fence, ron's father, Carl Beebe is staying with them. McKay Bailey and Rose Littlefield Salerno were married last weekend. Son, Alan Bailey and Johnny Alvey have been in Moab area fighting fires. Thelma Marsh had granddaughter, Alycia Woolsey here while her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Warren Woolsey attended a dental convention in Salt Lake City. They also attended the graduation exercises of brother, Milton Woolsey who received his doctorate degree in eduction administration from Brigham Young University. Dr. and Mrs. Sanford Hamilton brought their three children to spend the weekend, with his mother, Mrs. Ken Schow. Dr. Hamilton is a Salt Lake dentist. Ethel Pollock has had her daughter, colleen Kofoed and hus- band, Jed, Granger visiting several days. Pole Griffin exchanged marriage YQWwWlRQttCQX.Q.f Richfield. She has been transferred from a Richfield bank to Huntington where they will make their home for a few years until retiring back to Boulder. Mr. and mrs. LoRell Munson have a new grandson born to daughter, Maureen Nielson of Salt lake City. Beth Coleman came from Richfield to cater the Lyman Taylor .wedding. She brought son, Craig, his wife Shelly, and their new baby daughter Amanda. Craig will attend Utah Valley Trade Tech this fall where he is majoring in refrigeration and air conditioning. Mr. and Mrs. Ushur Spencer have returned from a three-week tour across the United Stattes. The tour originated in Rexburg, Idaho with former resident, Jerry Roundy's partner Glenn Stubbs. Jerry happened to be on a Hawaiian tour. Ushur and LaPreal's tour traveled along the U.S. northern border into Canada and through the eastern states. The tour ended in Ohio where they visited LaPreal's son, Wayne White and family in Dayton. Wayne is an attorney stationed at the Wright Patton Alrforce Base. Enroute to Provo, the Spencers visited Mr. and Mrs. Garl Cottam and laPreal's daughter, Dixie. Rickenbach. At home, they learned of the death of Maleta Cottam and returned to Provo for her services. They later met granddaughters Cheryl Kunkle of Houston, Texas, and Pamela Ellis in Cedar City. The mobile home of mr. and Mrs. Lance (Diane) Coleman was moved to the trailer court just through the fence from Diane's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Griffin. Skilled horsewoman, Chrissy Gledhill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dena Gledhill did very well at the Richfield horse show. She placed second in showmanship, third in horsemanship, won a blue ribbon in barrel racing, red ribbons in pole bending and trail class and a rosette for her accomplishments. The Dan-ell Alvey family went to the Pony Express Day horse races at Ely, Nev. as did the Gene Griffin family and seveal others. Anne Hawws stopped'briefly to see her family while husband, Val joined the menfolk for the bow hunt. The Gates family reunion was held over the weekend at North Creek, nearly all of the Toke Gates family were present, including Mr. and Mrs. Leone (Shirley) Gates, Tooele. Leone is a retired crane operator. Their children Mike and Shelly came with their families, but one'son was absent. Mr. and Mrs. Keith (Viola) Shanley, Salt lake City joined the group withh son Jerry and family. They have a daughter who was unable to come. Mr. and Mrs. Leo (Lois) Carlton, Ogden were there. Leo is retired from Hill Air-force Base. His three children Patricia, Bruce and families and daughter Kelly attended. They joined the Pratt Gates and Jim Smith families who shared Mr. and Mrs. Russell (Carol) Sorenson and Darren. Russell and Darren are employed with Creamer and Noble Engineering in St. George. Mr. and Mrs. Dale (Lori) Liston are parents of a new baby boy. Escalante participants at the Garfield County Fair brought home many ribbons including Orilla Cowles who wan a blue ribbon for her ceramics; Marlene Stowe for crocheting; Helen Shurtz and Lilian Lyman for handicrafts; Vickie Peternel and Sheila Wooley a blue ribbon for painting. Karl Spencer recently had surgery on his sinuses. Fontella Mecham is in Utah Valley Regional Medical Center recovering from hip surgery. John foster and Ed Mitchell are hospitalized at Garfield Memorial Hospital. Word was received that Louise Mounteer plans to return to Escalante in early September. Seeing the youngsters return to school is done with mixed emotions. School will begin Monday, August 26 at 8:30 a.m. |
