Show Rim-Run Race Set Saturday BRYCE CANYON Runners will "hit the road" Saturday as the second annual Rim-Run gets underway from Ruby's Inn. The race will start at 9 a.m. The course, "...set in 'some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, is a must for the runner who wishes to combine beauty with a well run race," said Bob Benfield, chairman of the Garfield County Travel Council. The five-mile race is run mostly in wooded areas, said Benfield. "We expect to make improvements every year in the race Itself, as well as full safety precautions that participants In an event like this should be able to expsct." The run will have local emergency medical technicians at intervals along the route to care for anything from a simple scrape or bruise to a serious condition that might occur. "Runners will not only take part in a quality race they will enjoy," said' Benfield, "but thty will also have the opportunity to win prizes and recognition. They can also look forward to an outdoor western dinner with entertainment by a live blue grass band and will then be able to enjoy a night-time rodeo." The race itself has 1) categories in both mens and womens divisions. The top winners in both categories will receive special awards. Last year's event brought runners from as far away as Florida. In fact, said Benfield, "one man thought so much of coming to Bryce for the race he talked nine of his friends into running also." Fee for the race is $8, which Includes the opportunity to run, win prizes, have the western dinner, attend the rodeo and each runner will also receive a gym bag. The Garfield County Sheriff's Department, under the direction of Sheriff Vic Middleton, will handle traffic and other police matters that may arise. Late entrants may bring their registration forms to Ruby's Inn Friday, Aug. 23, from S to 8 p.m. or Satuday, Aug. 24, from 7 to 8 a.m. |
