Senator Hatch said he was holding meetings throughout Utah as a nonpartisan way to air problems and discuss items affecting Utah residents. He addressed, the following subjects raised by those attending'., revenue sharing, paving the Burr Trail,, tax changes, wilderness areas, relocation of employees in the proposed land swap between the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service, the high cost of liability Insurance for municipalities, problems with Hous-- 4ng-and- Urban DevelopmentMn Denver, the federal deficit, proposed grazing fee increases on federal lands, public and private power interests and some legislation dealing with government land used for recreational interests. Two of the most interesting discussion subjects to paticipants appeared to be the federal deficit and the proposed grazing fee increases. Commissioners from Garfield and Kane Counties expressed particular concern over the proposed increases. Hatch said he is an "original sage brush rebel" and he would do his best to see that no increases were made on federal grazing lands. In remarks about the deficit, he said very little reduction in the federal debt can come about until there is a constitutional amendment calling for a balanced federal budget. Hatch concluded the meeting by saying, "This is just a meeting. Now, get in touch with us by letter, or call. We want to know what we b4 cart do to help you." . He personally complimented the group for their efforts and for their willingness to serve on the task force composed of local leaders in each of the cities and counties in Utah. |
