Show Escalante Council Minutes Water Draws Attention of City Council Minutes from the mid-July Escalante Town council were recently approved. They show that water in Escalante captured a considerable amount of attention from council members. Tom Hansen represented the South Field Water members and presented a schedule of water payments for each new connection onto their present water line. The water line was installed by members, using private funds only. It was proposed that the twon of Escalante buy the water line from the South Field Water members, with town to own the water line, charge a connect fee to hook on and a water meter hookup fee. The proposal was discussed at length by council members with a decision to discuss possible funding of the project with Wally Woolsey at the Bank of Iron County. Further discussion of the matter would take place at the following regular meeting. A new water line to the airport was also discussed. Garfield School District agreed to give the town of Escalante $600 to help with the line to the cemetery and would like to hook onto the line with a 6" pipe. In final water matters, there was brief discussion on the line to the Brubaker residence. It was indicated that Brubaker had all the equipment to run the line. Gary Lane Listen reported that representatives from Utah Technical College had agreed to come to Escalante to teach a fireman's course to all firemen for $15 per person The minutes stated that Escalante's fire truck needs to be replaced and that antique dealers have been contacted. Mel Richins sugested contacting Hill Field about a replacement vehicle. The council discussed burn permits and the need for residents to contact the fire department before burning weeds. New cemetery lots will be sold for $125 plus future donation. The council agreed to donations of $50 to the Chamber of Commerce and $35 to the Escalante Riding Club. Council members discussed the problem of unsightly areas in Escalante and agreed that, according to Improvement Zoning, offenders would be notified and allowed 30 days in which to clear up the problem, after which, if the problem was not resolved, the town would clean up the area in violation and charge the property owner for the work. The council agreed to call Bruce Heywood to ask his assistance in setting up an effective animal control system for Escalante. ' |
