This is where the settlers lived until they were sure there would be no Indian trouble. In 1866 a group of settlers had been driven out of Panguitch because of Indian wars. 13 A High Victorian double story home built by Samuel O. This late Victorian home was built by James Henrie for the first of three wives in about 1920. 1 Mahonri Moriancumer Steel Senior built this high Victorian home for one of his three wives. The other home he built is found on 3 South and 1 East. This home has been used as hospital, meetings for the county officials, lodging, to detain prisoners and other people needing to be kept in custody. 69 Another home built by (M.M. Steel, Sr.) For one of his wives. 16 A brick home built in the 1880's by Cub Neilson. 17 Very primitive, built in 1870's out of clapboard originally a polygamy home. Greek revival house has an old pitch wood corn us which has been heavily molded. 18 Queen Ann windows also in Hatch home on 3 East and Center. 19 South ward IDS Church house built in the 1920's. 20 This high Victorian home was built by James Houston in the early 1900's. A This small house was built to live in while the larger home was being built. As soon as the big home was built bins were built in the smaller building and used as their granary. This was the grandest granary in town. 21 Garfield County and City Court House. The fence was built in 1923. Originally the jail was in the courthouse. (County & City offices, Attorney, U.S.U. Pace home, fifth Sheriff of Garfield County. The story is told of him, when the federal officers would come to town to look for the polygamists, which they always did during the dark of the night, his wife, Hanna Pace would light a lamp and set it in the window and then all the neighborhood would know that the officers were here and the men would leave. 30 Built in the 1890s by . , 31 Panguitch Post Office 32 Victorian Style home of Frank Haycock. 33 One of 13 homes in the State of Utah with a Dixie Dormer window located on the north side of the upper story of the house. The other 12 homes are built, one in Toquerville, one in Leads, one in Middleton, one in Middleton, one in Fillmore and eight in St. George. 34 Allen's Apartment is a Dutch Colonial revival home with a gambrel roof. 35 Western stick style bungalow. This style bungalow was usually built by Maykeck and Greene Brothers, California Architects. This is one of the best examples of the Western Stick Style Bungalow in the state of Utah. 36 Old jail. 37 This home is built in the same plan as house No. 14 on First East and Second South. This home was built by Tp, Sevy in about 1910. 38 Luthern Bible School held every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. In this house, the whole family is welcome to come. 39 Morgan Richards built this home cef ore the brick kiln was operating so had to haul the rocks sometime in the 1870's. 40 City Park, race track, stables, rodeo grounds, picnic shelter, tennis court, bridge crossing the Panguitch creek running through the park. 41 Spry Cemetery, 64 miles north. 42 Blue Pine Motel Services, where Butch Cassidy met his mother just before her death and after he was allegedly killed in Bolivia. This is also where the Brigham Young University held an accademy in 1882 taught by John Swensen and Marie Larson who later married James B. Hey wood. They held school here and held dances also. This was built by James W. Pace. 43 School was held In the upper floor of this building the old Myers and Henrie store was held In the lower floor. When they began using this building for a theatre part of the upper floor was taken out. 44 This was originally called Supplement to the Garfield County News the Garfield Exchange. This at one time was a place where they held prisoners in the basement and also at one time school was held in this building. Until 1904 when the new school building was built. Each class was held in a different building that is why so many places had school held in them. 45 Galvanized Iron fronts ordered through the catalogs. There were about 10 different Cornice Companies in Utah located in Provo, Salt Lake City and Ogden. These fronts came in module parts and were interchangeable. 46 Site of Garfield-Main marker. Center street was called Garfield Street originally. 47 Three of the homes are prairie style Bungalows one a Salt Box house with fences on each corner. All four houses had dark and red brick in them. A Built about 1915. The Cast iron fence was built about 1890 and came from Grayer Iron in Salt Lake City. This has Queen Ann windows. 67 Bryce Natureland 7 miles South of Panguitch on Bryce Canyon Highway. Over 250 moths and butterflies, a beautiful sight. 60 Shed black rock base then pink soccoria rock then homemade concrete. 62 Many of the early plank homes were built with pit sawed lumber. A pit was dug, a man got Into the pit, another man on the ground level, both men held onto the saw making marks on the lumber. Marks made by a sawmill ))))). You can tell if these homes had sleeping floor in the homes by seeing the ends of the 2 x 4's standing on its end around the top of the house. 61 to the airport 63 one of the first log homes and best preserved log cabin in Panguitch 64 Best corner for variety of different buildings, frame, stucco, log & plank, brick.
