Show j Panguitch Area 'Great' For Hunting, Fishing I Norm McKee, Wildlife I conservation officer in Panguitch states this area is great for the hunting and fishing enthusaists. Pishing season opens June 4. Garfield County offers many good fishing opportunities. Most popular waters include Panguitch Lake, Pine Lake and ; high Boulder Mountain lakes. Best streams include Panguitch Creek, Mammoth Creek and East Fork of the Sevier. Some of the fishing areas exist on private lands permission to fish should be obtained. A popular game animal in Garfield County is deer. Best areas seem to be Panguitch Lake area, Antimony area and Boulder country Deer and elk primitive weapons hunt will open August 20-Sept. S. Regular deer season began October 22 through November 1. Good elk herd is found on Mt. Dutton and Boulder area. Only limited permits are available to nonresidents. Another big game in Garfield County include recently transplanted antelope herd in J John's Valley. Big' Horn Sheep i is on the Escalante drainage. ! Buffalo are also found in Garfield County. This herd is the only free ranging wild buffalo herd in the United States. As few permits are issued to residents each year. Most sought after small game animal is sage grouse. Good populations are found in most sagebrush areas in the Western part of the County. Popular winter time sport is Mountain Lion Hunting, commonly called cougars. Several licensed guides are in Garfield County for those who are interested in this sport. "Utah Division of Wild Life !
