Show 4,831 Citations Issued For 1976 Game Violations During the calendar year of 1976, Division of Wildlife Resources conservation of fleers issued 4,831 citations to people violating wildlife regulations and laws. Some $127,475 was collected in fines and approximately 8,600 days in Jail were levied against the lawbreakers. The total number of citations compares with 4,813 issued in 1975. By far, the most numerous violation was fishing without a license. There were 1,128 such citations written during the past year. This continues to be a trend even though fines of up to $299 can be levied. It has been the most frequent violation of Utah wildlife laws for many years. Other frequent violations Include having a loaded firearm in a vehicle (312), taking waterfowl before and after legal hours (289), failure to leave evidence of sex on big game animals (283), taking wildlife without having the proper license on person (228), fishing with two poles (224) and failure to properly tag harvested wildlife (166). Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Chief of Law Enforcement, John Nagel, com- men ted on law enforcement and wildlife violations: "It Is disturbing to note wildlife violations continue to increase in Utah. We are continuing to build a more competent crops of highly trained wildlife enforcement officers and are confident that our program will maintain its current levels of growth and efficiency. Hopefully, this means, in the end, those who Insist on breaking our wildlife regulations will be apprehended .and punished." Nagel continued, "As I have 'said before, However, if the problem is to be brought under total control, we must have the support and involvement of every concerned outdoorsman in Utah." |
