A BOY NINE YEARS OLD. Travels Alone From KnI;iml to Portland, Oregon. New York, August 11. James John Lawrence, the 9-year-old sou of Presi. dent John Lawrence, of the Oregon telephone and telegraph company, arrived ar-rived on the Auroria, last evening and will start for his home at Portland, Oregon, to-day. His parents left him with his uncle at liams Gate. England, three years ago. A. E. Hill, passenger agent of the Chicago & Northwestern railroad, met the lad at the steamship list night. Mr. Hill will put him on the West Shore train this evening at 5 o'clock with a letter addressed to passenger pas-senger agents and conductors to aid him in bis travels.
