Bishop Bill to Prohibit Religion Inquiry by School Boards Plans are being perfected by the Catholic Legislative Service of Illinois for the introduction into the next session of the Illinois state legislature of a bill forbidding public school boards to make any inquiry regarding the religious affiliations of candidates for teaching positions. This measure has been prompted by numerous complaints that public school boards have, in many instances, discriminated against otherwise highly qualified teachers because of their religious affiliations. Such conduct is against the letter and spirit of the State constitution. The Catholic Legislative Service of Illinois is anxious to. secure the fullest information possible on this subject, its officials say, and they request that teachers, or other persons who know of any cases of teachers having been refused positions because of their religious affiliations, send this information to its offices at Springfield. This information, the Service says, will be regarded as confidential but is necessary in order Ao ascertain the true extent of the evil to be corrected. , ) sw H H Salt Lake Chocolates Always Appreciated |
