Recently we talked with Ann Abel 19 of Albuquerque NM a teenager who went from 135 1 f 70 to pounds and is now at 95 pounds ik:t A ) still battling 4s with anorexia 4 i —an eating disorder that t' affects more '1 ''' ' t than 150000 1 teenage girls 11 ?77'‘71and a small le' number of teenage boys Lynn Minton: How did it all Ann Abel in July '92 at 80 pounds beginP Ann: The summer before my junior year in high school I weighed 135 and wanted to lose 5 or 10 pounds I had my wisdom teeth out and I couldn't eat for a week and I lost 5 pounds I was really happy about that getting compliments and all So 1 thought I would lose a couple more And a couple more By Thanksgiving people started telling me I was too thin I never stopped eating—I just stopped snacking and then I developed this incredible aversion to eating rich fattening food The idea of swallowing a bowl of ice cream became just repulsive Thick and gooey and creamy and sliding down my throat LM: What could have triggered all this?
