There are differences the choreography Is all new, there have been changes In the music. But the heart and energy of what Bennett conveyed Is there bigger than life on the screen. This Is a story about 17 dancers auditioning for a Broadway show. Only eight will be chosen. All 17 confront the possibility of relectlon, and we feel for them as they bare their souls on stoge. "THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY," A pop bottle tolls from on alrplone flying over Southern Africa, nearly striking XI, a bush-maIn the head. He sees It as a gift from the gods and embarks on a lournev to return It. This Is a fresh, wonderful comedy as we follow XI's exploits. He runs Into a scientist living In the bush, and a group of revolutionaries. Their three stories collide at one point with hilarious results. Rated PG. Sandcastle. Rated PG-1Midvalley, Trolley Corners, Trolley North. "THE JEWEL OF THE NILE," Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito return In this sequel to "Romancing the Stone." While It has lots of action and some good, comedlc performances, Jewel of the Nile can't escape feeling like a retread. Despite a charming Douglas ond Turner, this doesn't match up to the original. "MAD MAX: BEYOND THUNDER-DOME,- " The third Installment In the Mad Max series pits the hero, once aooln played by Mel Gibson, against the sinister matron of a shanty town, played by Tina Turner. Dlrectorwrlter brings the same frenetic energy of the earlier films to this one, and gets more Into Max's character here. All In all, a good addition to the Mad Max" series. Rated Sandy. "MASK," Based on the true story of Rocky Dennis, a boy plagued by a disfiguring Illness, this is a fine movie of emotional peaks and valleys. Directed by Peter Bogdanovich, the film tells of how Rocky came to accept his plight, with the help of his mother, played perfectly bv Cher. Newcomer Eric Stoltz, under a lot of mokeup, plays Rocky. Rated Midvalley. "MURPHY'S ROMANCE, An affectionate, movie about a divorcee (Sally Field) who moves to a small Arizona town to start life anew, where she meets the town's eccentric eligible bachelor, played with by James Garner. An charming savoir-fair- e enloyoble night at the movies. Rated Family Center Trolley, Trolley Corners, Plaza 5400. Trolley NoDh, Mann ONCE BITTEN," Lauren Hutton plays a vampire who must suck the blood of young sex male virgins to stay alive. Part teen-ag- e comedy, part campy vampire romp, this movie mixes the worst from both. "OUT OF AFRICA," Great cost, beautiful cinematography and poetic source material make this a wonderful film about writer Isok Dine sen. Meryl Streep delivers another excellent performance as Karen Bllxen who wrote under the name of Isok Dlnesen. Robert Redford ploys her lover; Klaus Marla Brandouer Is her husband In an arranged marriage. Sydney Pollock does a masterful mb of combining oil these elements for an extraordinary film. Rated PG. Crossroads, Plaza Foully Center Trolley, Monn 5400: Pee ADVENTURE, Wee Herman makes his motion picture de- but. While this endearing wimp Is good for some laughs, his ontlcs ore not enough to fill a feature-lengt- h movie. This seems to be the same loke played over and over agoln. Rated PG. Sandy. "ROCKY IV," Sylvester Stallone relies on the same old formula to get us cheering for Rocky Bolboa, and quite fronkly Its wearing a little thin. This time Rocky takes on a Russian fighting machine who has been developed to prove the Soviet Union's superiority over the U.S. The movie's best moments are the choreogaphed violence In the ring. Its worst moments are when Stallone has more than one sentence to say. Rated PG. Plazo 5400. "SPIES LIKE US," This comedy reunites Don Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, who first worked together on television's "Saturday Night Live." This Is an SNL skit stretched out to feature film length. Some of the one-lineore funny; the plot Is asinine. Aykroyd and Chase ploy two Inept CIA recruits who find themselves In the center of a potential nuclear conflict between the super powers. John Landis directs. Rated PG. Midvalley, Flick. TEEN WOLF, This teen movie was mode before Michael J. Fox hit the big time with Back to the Future." A so-s- o variation on the werewolf plot. Rated PG. Sandy. "THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL," Geraldine Poge tokes us Inside the character of Carrie Watts like few actresses do. We come to know her strengths, her weaknesses, her past and her dreams. And we like her for her playfulness. Adapted from a Horton Foote play, this Is a fine drama about an elderly, woman who wants to return home, to the rural land where she was raised, and where she In turn raised her children. John Heard, Carlin Glynn, and Rebecca De Mornav round out the fine cast. Rated PG. Reoency. TROLL, A girl Is befriended by a mogl-ca- l troll expert at decapitating people. A thoughtful and perceptive look at the consequences of the break up of a marriage. Gene Hackman, Ellen Burstyn, Amy Madlgon, Ally Sheedy and Brlon Dennehy oil give fine performances Rated R. "WITNESS," Harrison Ford plays a Philadelphia police officer who protects a young Amish boy when he witnesses a drug reloteo murder, falling In love with the boy's widowed mother In the process. Director Peter Weir (The Year of Living Dangerously"! tells o story of two worlds the violent 20th century and a poclflst society whose roots ore In the lBth century. "WHITE NIGHTS," This film runs the gamut from sublime to ridiculous. As a donee movie with Mlkholl Baryshnikov ond It Is exhilarating. As a tale Gregory Hines about espionage and Soviet repression. YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES," Owing much more to Steven Spielberg than to Sir Conan Arthur Doyle, this film speculates obout what would happen hod Holmes and Watson met while schoolboys. The strong points are the young cast, the Victorian setting, ond the remarkable special effects that you expect out of a Spielberg production, (Barry Levinson directed).
