Coach Sorensen has coached many top swimmers in past years, includ ing several of his children There is Craig Sorensen, a 985 graduate of Cottonwood High Craig made his own mark in prep swimming. Craig holds the state record in the butterfly, He placed second in the individual medley at last season s state swim meet. And now there is Kenna Sorensen. The Cottonwood High senior is among the top prep swimmers in the 1 100-yar- d 200-yar- state. Last year at the state meet she freeplaced second in the freestyle and second in the style. She is ranked third in the freefreestyle, first in the style. ninth in the butterfly, fourth in the freestyle and third in the freestyle. Swimming became a family affair for the Colt senior. "My whole family has swam since we were little. Having her father as a coach is definitely an asset, according to Kenna. "I don't know if I could swim for anybody else. It would be very hard for me to have someone else as coach. Brighton Boys and Girls Teams Look to Continue Dominance Over High School Swimming Scene When one thinks of prep swimming. Brighton High School often comes to mind. And with good reason. The Brighton Bengals have dominated the prep swimming scene for many years. In the last five years, the Brighton boys team has won four state titles. The only time they did not come out on top was in 1982. Cyprus unseated the Bengals at that state meet. The Bengals won six of the 10 swimming events last state meet. The Lady Bengals have won four consecutive state titles. Last year at the state meet Brighton won every swimming event. Calculating times turned in thus schools it appears far among the that Brighton once again will come out on top. The Brighton boys medley relay team, consisting of Matt Dimmick, Too Ethrington, Albert Vicario and Derek Butters, currently holds the top time, 1:44.63. This same team won the state title last season. The Bengal boys freestyle relay also holds the top time, 3:23.77. That team consists of Bryan Larsen, Butters, Ethrington, and Dimmock. Butters hold the best time in the freestyle at 22.95 thus far in the season. He placed sixth in this event last state meet. Dimmock has the third best time in this event, behind Scott Olsen of Skyline. d Dimmock is ranked first in the butterfly, an event in which he 400-yar- d 100-yar- placed second in at the state meet. Ethrington has the second best d time in the individual medley, He is the defending state champion of this event. 200-yar- Skyline also appears to be tough this season.
