Last year the festival featured a restored version of D.W. Griffiths Way Down East. Wednesday, two showings of Frank Capra's Lost Horizon" will be shown. The print of Lost Horizon that will be screened Wednesday at 10 a m. and 7 p.m. in the Egyptian Theatre represents the culmination of a search for footage that had been excised from the film since it opened in 1937 with a running time of 132 minutes. Over the next four years it suffered cuts that would eventually reduce it to 108 minutes. Lost Horiin 1947 with a runzon was ning time of 117 minutes. The American Film Institute began the refurbishing effort in 1973. The campaign has restored the picture to 125 minutes and the soundtrack back to the original 132 minutes. Stephen Gong, acting director of the National Center for Film and Video Preservation at the AFI will present the newly restored print of Lost Horizon. Other events at the festival Wednesday include a seminar on marketing documentary films. "Handle with Care: The Art of Marketing Documentary Films will feature panelists Mitchell Black of Direct Cinema, filmmaker Julia Reichert (Seeing Red), Josh Barron, film critic Sheila Benson of the Los Angeles Times, executive producer David Fanning of PBSs Frontline, and filmmaker Bob Guenette. Panelists at the Thursday session will include director and Bobby Roth, Peter Coyote, attorney Lee Muhl and independent filmmaker David Burton Morris.
