Show 1 4 II The Salt Lake Tribune, Sunday, August 8, 1982 LDS Hospital Gay Etta Hemingway Names Business Grad, Mother Seeks Seat Gay Etta Hemingway, a mother of two children and instructor of natural childbirth, is running for the Utah State Board of Education in District 3. She lives at 256 Kingdon Lane North Salt Lake. It is important to have the views and needs of young parents represented. she said. With a background in business management, real es- - f, tate and being a mother, I feel : ' I have an important contnbu- - f" tion to make to the State Board of Education. Mrs. Hemingway earned a bachelors degree in business ; from Utah administration State University in 1976. She recently was coordinator of Orchard Elementary Schools Resource Center. Running for the same school board seat are John P. Redd, Camille Anderson, Ruby J. Price, Donald H. Hutcheson, Vera Edwards and Linn C. Baker. Mrs. Hemingway believes enrollment growth is a key issue in this race. I would recommend a standardized school building be adopted to reduce architectural costs, she said. I am in favor of preserving academics in secondary schools with an emphasis on basic skills and knowledge. Quality teachers need to be encouraged if students are to receive a quality education, Mrs. Hemingway said. The role of the board, in her opinion, is to help local school boards attract teachers, to serve as an example to local boards by being well managed, to regulate and develop vocational education and to recommend fair distribution of state funds throughout Utah. well-qualifi- W.
