Apartment Manager Course Is Offered class to certify apartment managers is being offered at Utah Technical College. Managing apartments is a lucrative business and this class is certified by the Apartment Assn, with the goal of improving the quality and expertise of the resident apartment said Steve Terry, manager, teacher of the class. Terry is a certified property manager and has worked in real estate management in the areas of condominiums, retail offices and industrial space. He was employed for eight years in management of distressed property in the Salt Lake metropolitan area for five years with Prowswood as asset manager and has owned his own management company for one year. The National Apartment Assn, certified the course to promote professional and ethical apartment managers in the business, he said. The organization has 145 chapters and 55,000 members. According to Terry, the image that the landlord is a villain and the tenant the victim are stereotypes that will disappear when students learn about management. Students in the class range from those who are themselves owners to those who apartments to manage another group who operate unit apartment buildings, he said. As the Salt Lake area becomes a metropolitan market, with construction of larger apartments with as many as 4,000 to 5,000 units, the market for managers will continue to expand, Terry observed.
