Show Submit Petition WEST 4 - valley VIEW Thursday, Nov. 17, 1983 THE BEST CONDOMINIUMS IN THE SALT LAKE VALLEY Residents Say No To New Apartments WEST VALLEY. The City Planning Commission here Thursday received a petition against a proposal to rezone an area for high density residential use. Johanson Thackery & Co. is requesting the zone change for an eight-acr- e parcel at 4100 W. 4700 South from (single family homes on 8000 square foot lots) to 4 and R-The developer plans to build four twin homes on a half-acr- e parcel on the propertys northern end, plus a apartment complex on the remaining Vk acres. The resident who submitted the petition, Nancy Jordan, 4068 W. Ben-vieAve., cited potential traffic problems as the major reason for her opposition to the project. Its already a problem trying to get out onto 4000 West, and if these apartments get built, it will be even worse 8 150-un- it (I ADULTS $1.50 J CHILDREN $1.00 on 4700 South, she predicted. If I lived in the (proposed) apartments I wouldnt take my life into my hands trying to get out on 4700 South; Id go Council, whose members will in turn vote on whether to recommend the Tonight through the subdivision. Because the residents had not met with the developer and had little information about the proposed project, Planning Commission chairman Carroll Elford told Mrs. Jordan he would accept the petition with the realization that not many of the signers had any specific information on what they were signing against. Armand Johansen, the developer of the proposed project, told the commission specific plans for the project were very loose right now, but that he is counting on input from area residents to help with the final design. He said the apartments would be moderately priced and that he is looking at several developments in Arizona as a possible model for his development. The commission will vote on the rezoning request at its next meeting, Award Contract WEST VALLEY. The City Council is expected to award a $95,000 construction contract to Staker Paving when it meets here this evening (Thursday) at 6 oclock. The contract will be for completion of streets left unfinished by the developer of the subdivision, Klungervik and Co., according to Director of Public Works Glen Weaver. Funds for the work will come out of the $136,000 the city received when it foreclosed on the developers subdivision bond, Weaver said. All developers must put up a bond with the city as a guarantee theyll finish construction in a certain amount of time. Klungervik and Co. did not finish work within the time (agreed upon with the county years ago) and lost its bond, Weaver said. In giving its approval, the commission stipulated that Parker erect a fence along the lots abutting 4100 South. A rezoning request of M.P.E., Inc. for an ll34-acr- e parcel at 3400 So. 2100 West was continued. M.P.E. is seeking to change the zone from (duplexes on 6,500 square foot lots) and A-- l (agricultural) to R-(high density residential) in order to build a apartment complex. Bryson Garbett withdrew his conditional use request for a apartment complex on a Planning staff parcel zoned member Kevin Hooper told the commission the l zone would be inappropriate for the development and that Garbett will submit a rezoning request for the land in the near future. 9.47-acr- Council To Dec. 8.
