Show October 1998 Sun Advocate Business Review Page 7 Section A SCHOOL OF DANCE Linda Johnstuns School of Dance has been involved in the education of children for 33 years. Courses taught include classical ballet, character, musical theatre, tap and jazz. The school is located at 58 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The facility has two large studios to accommodate numerous students. During the past 33 years, Linda has developed special programs within the school itself. The Nonstop and Junior Nonstop Dance Companies are primarily classical ballet, jazz and lyrical performing groups. These groups have audition requirements. There are combination classes designed for the younger students. Linda encourages a well rounded foundation for all phases of the art of dance. There are special ballet and pointe classes and intermediate, advanced, and .adult tap to enable concentration on one dance form. During recent years, the school has focused on classical ballet and pointe. Through the Royal Academy of Dancing membership, the students have participated in major ballet examinations. These exams include classical, character and free movement. Those students who have entered into these ballet examinations and assessments are invited into a new special program. Ballet exams were held last May at the schools main studio. Mrs. Pauline King from England was the ballet examiner; Mrs. Janice Siggard was the pianist. Those students taking part in the ballet examinations and assessments held last May were: Moira Prichard, Lesley Manley, Kristina Juliano, Rebecca Bunderson, Michelle Maria Dicaro, Thayn, Maquette Hill. Linda Johnstun also was examined on the Teaching Certificate Program. Her exams entailed a correct analysis of movement, and understanding of classical technique and theoretical knowledge of the Body Basics Coaching and correcting sessions. Linda also passed her exam. Those students which were used as demonstration students were Moira Prichard and Lesley Manley. New auditions were held in June for the Senior and Junior company. New members for Sr. Nonstops are: Kassandra Gurule, Rebecca Bunderson, Michelle Thayn, Maria Dicaro, Maquette Hill, BoWynn Noyes, and Tiffany Van Wagoner. New members for Jr. Company are: Richardson, Misty Richardson, Samantha Sweet, Charlene Sweet, Michelle Thayn, and Cassidy Wiscombe. Members from the Junior Company are Rebecca Bunderson, Michaela Bush, Jenny Bush, Heather Davis, Maria Samantha Royal Academy of Dancing Syllabi Member of Dance Educators of America Instructor Linda Johnstun Home of the Nonstop Dance Company Dicaro, Eastman, Kassandra Gurule, Maquette Hill, Jessica Hofmann, Kristina Juliano, Michele Martinez, Katie Jo Matekovic, Megan Mortensen, BoWynn Noyes, Mallery Sharp and Tiffany Van Wagoner. The Com- pany has also presented their show for the Culture Connection in July, the State Masonic Temple Convention and the Octoberfest at Notre Dame School in September. They are also on tap to perform in February for the Culture Connec tion Music. Evening of Ballet and The school is anxiously anticipating the dance recital to be the first part of June 1999 at the Geary Theatre. The theme will be centered around music and dances from the 20th century. Linda is also adding a special mother-daught- er num- ber for this years recital. Owner and Director, Linda Johnstun, strives to ensure that children have the opportunity to achieve goals through the arts; not only in her private school but through her volunteer work in our community. She has presided on committees for: Culture Connection, International Folkfest, KNOCA, Chamber of Commerce Board, and Miss Carbon County Scholarship Pageant. Linda was honored at the annual Chamber of Commerce meeting in January. She is very honored to have been presented the Total Citizen of the Year Award. Fionna Marcelino, Alexis Avery, Vanessa Hunt, Lexie Yelonek, Jacqueline Green, Lindsay Green, Jessica Swink, Jenna Houskeeper, April Olsen and Kiera Richens. The Nonstop Dance Company had a very successful tour to California in July. They performed at Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. The acceptance to perform was by audition only. The Company has just been offered a Preapproved Booking Status for another season. That decision was based on the companies performance record at Disneyland Park. No audition will be necessary in the future.
