Show Emery County Progress, Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday October 27, 1 998 3B imtdkixDrs SjpdDirts sumdl The real WARS now begin. Nine games have been played to determine the players. Nine weeks have determined the seedings. Whos going to win? I dont know, nobody does. But the next four weeks will be exciting. Sixteen teams left, only three or four without a legitimate shot to go all the way. This is great. This is high school football. Let the GAMES begin! Its for the that these Emery Spartans finished deserved season. better than that. They regular The Spartans came into this year inexperiences and undersized, but that never stopped the Spartans from competing. This team did not have the dominant star, although Ben Luce certainly did impersonate him every so often. They didnt have the 65 270 lb. lineman, although you have thought Zak Sharp was really much bigger than he really was. A nine point loss at Box Elder, a two point loss at Delta, a one point loss at Ogden. Three tough road games three tough losses. The ball just wouldnt bounce our way. All we needed was just a little bit of help. It just wasnt fair! There just wasnt a break to be found anywhere out there. Where did they all go? Where was our share? The 1998 Emery Spartan football team sure could have used a few this year. They really didnt even need their share, they needed just a few. The ball just needed to bounce our way only once or twice more, 45- - or 72, just a bounce away. Hopefully, things even out in the playoffs. It could be fun. Good Luck Spartans! too bad 4-- 5 Congratulations go out to Ferd Allred and his Canyon View Junior High Cougar volleyball team for winning another league Utahns are backing Proposition 5 which will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot. There is a fine line between constructive criticism and just plain meanness. It is my opinion that Mr. Gary Arrington has crossed that line and caused more upset among the Spartans than his column was worth. To quote Mr. Arrington, Losing really sucks! One of the worst nightmares a person can have is knowing that you have lost to an inferior team. The realization that you have just handed the ball game to someone on a silver platter is not a feeling that makes you warm and fuzzy all over. Now I dont know that much about football nor do I pretend to. But as the manager of the s team, I know enough to realize that those hoys play their hearts out. They get on the field at the beginning of every game with the intent to win. It may not always work out that way, but at least they give it their best shot. You really have to hand it the coaches too. They puts their hearts into their coaching and they dont give up on their team. When something isnt working, these coaches do their best to correct it. Whether it be to run a different play or send in another player, they try their hardest to strengthen the weak spots. While Im on the subject of coaches, I would like to take a moment to commend the football coaches this year. From the head coach on down through the assistant coaches, the staff this year has been remarkable. As individuals they are continued on page 4B 1966-play- ing of the EHS Cross Country track team for two years.
