This year the festival's special guest will be extraordinary video artist George Kuchar from San Francisco. Other filmmakers are anticipated with discussion panels prior to evening screenings on Friday and Saturday from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. :00 Screenings will be held nightly from 7:00 to p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 2nd and 3rd, the showings will be at the Slickrock Cinemas 3 and Saturday, April 4th at the new Grand County High School auditorium. A special free screening will also be held Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the High School. An erotic, surreal short filmed in black & white and free of dialog, about which Ms. Ferguson says, I had a statement I wanted to make, a genre I wanted to work in and a person I wanted to experience this creative process with. Other sponsors include the Utah Film Commission and the Moab to Monument Valley Film Commission. The Society has recently established that the festival will begin to carve a niche among the many national film festivals by specifically focusing on attracting films and filmmakers which offer audiences a positive vision. According to Society President and Festival Director Nicholas Brown, "We're looking for creative, visionary, conscious, aware, upbeat, and positive films; not necessarily those with Pollyanna happy endings, but works that address real issues in our lives such as poverty, racism, unemployment, social inequalities, conflict, death, and environmental degradation, and then do something innovative with those issues." The festival typically features an interesting mix of film genres, encouraging avant garde and experimental pieces.
