Show 6A Moab Happenings Air Affair April 1998 '98 Promises Family Entertainment, Excitement During the air show at Canyonlands Field on Saturday, May 2nd, there will be an amazing line-u- p of nationally acclaimed airshow performers. One of these main attractions is Capt. Dave Eastman of Tucson, Arizona and his Runnin Wild Aerobatics show. When Dave takes to the controls of the highly modified 300 HP Pitts S2S nicknamed The Patriot, get ready for a airshow performance! His expertly choreographed performance begins with an inverted flatspin, starting more than one mile above the ground with over 30 turns towards the crowd! He will also demonstrate his signature maneuvers-th- e high-energ- heart-stoppin- g, awe-inspiri- Twist-Of- the y, nothin you can do if you never have the courage and the attitude. Hes a tough act to follow! These stunts are executed on both lower and top wings. Its like flying without an airplane, the wingwalker says, an incredible feeling. Margaret Stivers, weighing in at about 100 lbs in her red leotard, her blue eyes flashing, recounts the thrill of climbing out of the open cockpit of one of the Silver onto the top wing. But Wings Stearman according to Stivers, who has made 536 trips aloft on the wing of a plane without a parachute, its years of hard practice that make what she does look easy. Its like dancing or a sport, she says of her love for her career. Its something you really enjoy doing. Another attraction in our airshow is Bob Carlton of New Mexico. In con- trast powered aircraft performances there is the silent, graceful sailplane maneuvers of Bob Carlton and his On Silent Wings acrobatic routine. He will be f, Spin, performing in his elegant H 101 Salto sailplane. Its aerodynamically clean form allows him to perform seemingly impossible maneuvers with ease. With no engine to power his craft, Bob Carltons act is truly a ballet in the sky which has the capacity to leave an audience completely spellbound. Brilliant white wingtip smoke adds to the graceful appearance of the maneuvers while classical music underscores the serenity of this unique act. Other additional attractions to our98 airshow are Steve Appleton in his Extra 300, Kent Phleider in his Sukhoi 26, Russ McDonald with his 1 Mustang, and Bill Hunsacker performing in his T-Back by popular demand is the Confederate Air TBM Forces AVENGER. Dave learned air discipline and precision flying as an Air Force pilot and instructor and brings that mentality to each and every maneuver. This is not just another Dave Eastman in his nicknamed The Patriot air- show act, this is entertainment at its best. "Being in the Air Force has allowed me to pursue my dream of flying, Eastman says, but its the expression on the kids faces after a flight performance that draws me to participating in airshows. Being able to pass on my love for flying to the kids is what its all about. They are always so amazed and appreciative, and starting this year I will be donating a portion of my performance fee to a charity that caters to children in the community. Capt. Dave Eastman is currently n stationed at Air Force Base in is Az and an Aircraft Commander in the Tucson, C-l 30. Next on the Davis-Montha- list of formers per- the is Silver Flight Wings Team from Chino, California The Silver Wings Flight Team are three talented pilots and a lady wingwalker whose strength and gymnastic skills make the impossible look easy. The main goal of this team is to rekindle the excitement of the 1930s Barn- Era storming and pay tribute to those aviation pioneers who dared to venture into the new world of flight. The pilots of the team are Hartley Folstad, Jimmie New and Ron Caraway who fly three with 450 HP Pratt and Whitney Stearman engines. Their wingwalker is Margaret Stivers. She performs a creative routine combining physically challenging gymnastic poses while the plane is doing aerobatics in formation with the other two Stearmans! es to the loud, raucous, Windmill, the Alb- uquerque, their routine, she appears at In a Military participation in the different location on the plane on every pass they make before the crowd. An extraordinary group, the team members average 500 - 7,000 jumps and have performed 100 demos around the world. The aircraft they will be jumping from is a DHC - 6A Twin Otter which can carry as many as 12 jumpers plus crew'. This airshow performer in the world today. Former test pilot Greg Poe of Boise, Idaho will bring his one of a kind Attitude is Everything performance to Air Affair 98 with a new airplane, new maneuvers, and an all out commitment to provide the audience an experience theyll never Former test forget. Greg, now sponsored by Crucial Technologies, will be performing in his state of the art 330 HP monoplane, the Edge 540. This aircraft, designed by a former NASA engineer, can withstand 23 Gs of wing stress and has a roll rate of 420 degrees per second. Greg says, Nothing is more exhilarating than performing in that airplane! After watching his performance, youll agree. Flying to an original musical score, Attitude is Everything, he will demonstrate some of his signature maneuvers such as Newtons Folly, the Knife Edge Spin, the raw power, new Torque roll and the Tsunami for 98 . Poe also has a few other tricks to show, including tumbling maneuvers. In his performance, Greg Poe intends to deliver on his promise to leave no one disappointed. As the lyrics to his soundtrack say, Youve got the wings, and the power but theres . energetic and enthusiastic team will be jumping twice at the Air Affair. 6 Demo Team The 12th Force Air Demonstration Team from Hill AFB will also be performing on May 2nd. This group of professionals have been selected by the Air Force to show the world one of the premier fighters in the Air Force inventory - the 6 Fighting Falcon. During the show, Capt. "Blade Everett highlights the capabilities of the 6 by performing high and low altitude navigation, close role air support and air superiority. Following their show, team members are available to answer questions and meet their audience. Last year alone, this team performed for more than 7 million spectators in the US and Canada.
