Show 2A Moab Happenings April 1998 As the season begins to get up a head of steam it becomes a time to reflect on the positive side of this annual return of the visitors. It is amazing how one good weekend changes everybody's moods. We don't even hear as much about how crabby and unkind we are supposed to be, (except for the Life & Times column) but we still need to attend SUPERHOST training and get a complete attitude adjustment before the season gets much older. MOAB HAPPENINGS "Moab Happenings0" is published by Canyonlands Advertising Company of Moab, Utah and is provided free throughout Grand and San Juan County, Utah as a visitor information guide. She was concerned that we might lose some advertisers. I assured her that if the advertisers were that thin skinned, there wasnt much that we could do about it, but I was comfortable with the article. This seems to be the month for strange articles. More new businesses are cropping up on Main Street, plus they are starting to backfill the side streets again. "Cavedreamers" opened in the space formerly known as "One Shot Gallery" and is reporting that they have been well received. Our other lifestyle columnist, Kris Johnson, submitted a work on baldness and we had to discuss this one also. I was leaning towards not using it, but the publisher pulled rank and said to run it. I only hope that we don't have any bald advertisers that will be offended. Every month as the publishing deadline draws nearer, we spread the material out on the table and try to create a newspaper. One of the things that we have become aware of and it causes a great deal of frustration every month is the lack of material from most of the events. This is unfortunate, in that, regardless of the size or prosperity of the event, publicity is good and we are more than glad to provide space for these events. The air show buried us in information, for which we are grateful and we were glad to give them a lot of room. At the other end of the scale, we didn't receive anything front the Jeep Safari. However the event is big enough that we just gathered up material from a number of other sources and made something out of nothing. The One: I get tired of going to point of this is two-foland to the committees complain listening meetings about no cooperation by the media. Folks, its a two way street. Two: If you give a party and nobody comes, look to be sure you sent out the invitations! April has enough going on, that even the hardiest among us will be hard pressed to do it all. From Jeeping to biking to Air Shows, with some horse racing and horse shows thrown in for good measure. Returning to the local scene, after a brief absence, the bow ling alley is about to open. This may not seem like much to some of our visitors that take things like bowling alleys for granted, but it was a traumatic event when the old bowling alley closed. There was even serious talk about lynching the owner for doing such a nasty deed. The good news is, time heals all wounds and the new facility will be more modern and will provide a lot of wholesome family entertainment.
