Show 10A Moab Happenings April 1998 U in Spring Activities The at Arches National Park snow Center beginning at 7 30 a m daily, and at the entrance fee is gone, temperatures are rising, and colorful wildflowers will be here soon, and Arches National Park has announced the schedule of visitor services for this luxurious season The Visitor Center at Arches will be open from 8am until 4 30 p m until March 14, from March 15 through March 21, hours will be 7 30 a m until 5 30 station after 8 a m Campers then will have until noon to deposit that form and their fee at the campground Sites not claimed by noon will be made available to others Campers should be aware that the campground fills each so an day, often by early arrival is recommended Campers are also reminded to bring their own firewood for the grills, collecting of firewood in the park is not permitted All trails and roads in the park are open Spring rams may cause temporary closure of the very few drive roads in unpaved the park or may necessitate use ol four-wheduve vehicles until surfaces diy out Spring is an especial v pleasant time of year to visit p m Guided hikes through the maze of fins and canyons known as the Fiery Furnace begin on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8, when one walk is offered at 2 00 p m The afternoon walk time will change as the weather gets hotter Reservations and tickets for these popular, diificult and exciting walks may be made only at the Arches Visitor Center, no more than 48 hours in advance and tor groups no larger than ten people Larger gioups may request a special tour, which will be scheduled it stalf is available Tees are $6 for adults and $3 for children 2 years of age and seniors, children under 6 are free Those wishing to hike the Fiery Furnace without a ranger are reminded that a special permit is required These permits may be obtained and paid lor at the Arches Visitor Center Groups intending to hike on their own in the Fiery Furnace will be required to attend a five minute orientation program to learn about the fragile nature ol this special place and how they can make a big dilleience in the well being of the area I ocal hikers may obtain a special caid alter watching the program once This card will allow them to get permits in the luture without watching it again II local hikers bring friends or family from outside the area with them, those people w ill be required to watch the proginm Tees are charged for each peison on a permit two-whe- Arches National Park While weekends are quite busy weekdays Campfire programs will be olfered nightly beginning Friday, March 13 at the amphitheater at the Devils Garden Campground at 7 30 p m Starting April 5 ( when Daylight Savings Time is implemented), programs will begin at 8 30 p m and will be even later in June when sunset is latei Guided walks (not in the Ficiy Furnace) will begin on Friday, Maich 20, piobably around 10 a m These shoil, easy and liee walks will be olleied daily at difleient locations thioughoul the paik Check at the Visitor Cenlei oi on bulletin boards throughout the paik for times and locations The water at Devils Garden campgiound will be turned on loi the season Monday, March 16 At that time a S 0 per night lee will be chaiged tor each campsite Campus must pieregister loi campsites at the Visitor are quieter and visitois more are likely to find that ever elusive solitude Early mornings are parti cularly quiet and pleasant SCENIC HELICOPTER TOURS He with Geo-Sei- s Helicopters, Inc MORNING, AFTERNOON & EVENING HORSE RIDES Bring your Family Stay for Dinner Enjoy the foothills of the La Sal Mountains hour ride 2 hour ride 3Vz hour ride $20 per person $30 per person $50 per person 1 Vz Longer Rides by arrangement For Reservations call.
