Sixteen students from the Hospitality and Tourism class and their teacher and trip organizer, Steve Hazlett, took the ride. The trip was led by Matt Hebberd and Kirstin Peterson, owners of Rim Tours. Guides Chelsey, Candee, Bob, Ranna, 13-mi- le Grand County High School students got the ride of a lifetime recently when they were taken on a guided tour to Gemini Bridges, via mountain bikes. The trip was hosted by Rim Tours of Moab, and assisted by other organizations. and Damon also helped with the trip. Lunch was provided courtesy of the Grand County Travel Council. The Travel Council has supported the Hospitality and Tourism class with funding and input on what skills students working in the local tourism industry should have. The Travel Council is also coordinating a Super Host program that will be offered to High School students in May to Gemini Bridges The idea for the trip started after the class visited the Sand periences that visitors come from miles around to have. I was just interested in seeing some of the kids in the community out there on bikes, and we wanted to give them a chance to try it out to see why people come to town, Hebberd said. The students had a great time, though several had some difficulty moving the next day. Here are some of their reactions to the trip: Continued on Page B6 Flats Recreation Area three years ago. The purpose of the Sand Flats trip was to view some of the environmental impacts of tourism and how these impacts are being managed by the Community Sand Flats Team. Matt Hebberd gave a presentation about the Sand Flats Area and bike patrol and offered to take the students on a bike tour so they could have some of the ex Red Devil Baseball team played half its games during March The Red Devil baseball team played half of its schedule during the month of March, making it a busy upstart for the players. Due to spring temperatures and relatively dry weather, Grand County hosted a number of teams in Moab, especially players from Colorado and northern Utqjh. The Devils managed to scratch out eight runs despite striking out a season high 10 times and held on to win Senior pitcher Darin Palmer picked up his second win of the season with two solid innings of pitching after relieving Keith Carroll on the mound. The next action for the Devils came with tourney no. 2, as the home team hosted Manti, San Juan and Millard. Grand County took on Millard in their first game, and faced yet another very tall, pitcher. While striking out nine times, Moab managed to spread full-seas- Millard the road Saturday and Sunday to tournament. During the second full week of games, Moab hosted Cortez, Colorado THE son. The winners bracket game featured one of the wildest comebacks in the history of Red Devil baseball. Low on pitching, the Devils faced a bunch from Manti, and rapidly found themselves down 15-- with just three outs left in the game. Out came the rally caps, however, and in a flurry of extra base hits in hard-hittin- g Carroll was the winning pitcher as he struck out six Broncos. The big boys went in for the last of three tournaments the weekend of March 28, when the Red Devils couldnt quite keep up with the bigger schools.
