Show HILL TOP TIMES Friday, May 13, 1983 Page 3 Hi ,,A unit career advisor, a telephone maintenance supervisor and an air traffic controller have been named Hill AFB Outstanding Airmen of the Quarter ending March 31. Outstanding Senior NCO MSgt. Donald D. Brown,. 388th Component Repair Squadron, was named Outstanding Senior Noncommissioned Officer. As unit career advisor for the squadron, he is responsible for preparing, monitoring and maintaining a variety of forms and records, as well as performing annual and quality career counseling. He monitors retraining, Palace Chase and Early Out program applications, and keeps squadron personnel informed of changes affecting them and controls and primary crash alarms, makes limited weather observations, insures that navigational aids are AFB, the Utah Test and Training Range, and the Air National Guard at Pinedale, Wyo. Sergeant Kucharzak and his unit insures that more than 12,000 telephones at Hill AFB are maintained and that an average of 125 new telephone and data installation work orders are completed each month. Sergeant Kucharzak has been termed by his peers as "an example of leadership by example." Prior to his assignment, the average workload backlog was 12,000 manhours. Today, the backlog is below 6,000 hours. This was due to his flexibility of meeting operating properly and radar monitors aircraft making instrument approaches. Airman McCombs has been termed "an outstanding air traffic controller, possessing abilities far above his non-rad- ar peers." His capacity to handle emergency situations and numerous aircraft of varying types within limited airspace is unsurpassed," say Technical Training Center, Keesler AFB, Miss, and came to Hill AFB as an Apprentice Controller. After completing training in minimum time, he received his Control Tower Facility Rating in September 1982. He then entered training for a Precision Approach Radar Certification and obtained the rating in minimum time. Airman McCombs earned the 1881st Communications Squadron Airman of the Quarter award for the period April 1 through June 30, 1982 and was promoted to Senior Airman e in March 1983. He is active in squadron sports and church activities and participates in "Parent to Parent," a group which provides emotional support and parental experiences of infants who are in Intensive Care due to premature birth or illness.
