Utah Transit Authority recently initiated a new service, called "The Commuter Cruiser," which allows employees from the area's large work areas to supplement their incomes by driving their colleagues to and from work. During work regular employee-operator- s shifts, buses are parked at the base. s At 3:30 p.m., employee-operator- drive base employees home and return buses to the garage, he says. "The Commuter Cruiser," Mr. Hargis says, maximizes the use of buses that have older, limited use. The service also minimizes fuel and labor costs while well-maintain- , ed providing necesary service." UTA selected Mark Winham, inspector; Dave Lucas, warehouseman; and Lanny Johnson, vehicle control officer, to be the first three HAFB operators. More HAFB operators will be hired in the near future to provide increased service to the base, Mr. Hargis says. All "Commuter Cruiser" operators k must complete an intensive' of and training program two-wee- in-cla- ss on-the-ro- ad experience.
