Show Treated as 'non-citizen' the line that contained my daughter's name. Now, when this ledger is presented for signature it is placed in front of you upside down and they place their finger on the line for your signature. We still have no idea why my daughter's name was in the ledger last time but after making mak-ing out new registration forms I was able to cast my ballot. The two points I want to make for future voters is to always make sure your very own name is on the line you sign and don't ever get into a position that you can be treated as a non-citizen because it hurts and it hurts badly. Do always exercise your right to vote! Let's hope our public servants will take a moment to think and treat the next person with a problem with a little more compassion because after all, where would they be without all of us? Jewel Buckle Dear Editor I was both shocked and saddened to be treated as a non-citizen of our state on Election Day. My husband and I have lived in the same voting district for 31 years, and we have always exercised our right to vote. Upon reaching the polls last Tuesday Tues-day I was informed that my husband hus-band could vote but I could not. I noticed in the ledger with the registered voters' names I could see my daughter's name, Brenda Jewel, but my name which is Lois Jewel was not listed. I explained to them that my daughter has lived in California and has not voted in Utah so there had to be some kind of mix-up with our similar names as to explain why my name was not in the book At this point the election volunteer vol-unteer called the Davis County Clerk's Office in Farmington. She then put me on the line with them, and this is where the shock came in to the whole scenario. Instead of being be-ing glad I was there to do my civic duty as a citizen, this woman did nothing but shriek at me and say I had not voted since 1983. When I explained this simply was not true, she just the same as called me a liar. When I further stated that my husband had never voted without me she said, "Well, he should have his name stricken from the records, tool " After being disconnected three times and some investigation of the records showed that the last time I voted, which was not in 1983 as she previously stated but in the last election I had signed the ledger on |
