Show Davis County Board of Education approves career ladder program for upcoming 1 989-90 school year formal evaluation. The principal is required to make an appointment with the teacher prior to the formal evaluation. The informal evaluation is developmental developmen-tal in nature. The principal and . teacher look at the strong points and weaknesses in the program and the teacher's goals and objectives and how they are being met By DONETA GATHERUM FARMINGTON - Tuesday the board of education approved the career ca-reer ladder program for the 1989-90 school year. The career ladder plan started, five years ago. It is a state program to encourage teachers to improve their teaching skills and to develop better instructional programs and methods. The rewards are extra earnings.' V. Each district in the state develops their own career ladder plan according accor-ding to guidelines set by the State Department of Education. All plans have to be approved by the Office of Education. After working as a committee of administrators, teachers, and community com-munity representatives for several months, Dr. Betty Aihbaker, chairman chair-man of the committde,,presented the finalized plan to tip board for approval ap-proval Tuesday. vJ- The major change in the 1989-90 plan was the method of teacher evaluation that will be used. Last year, the program required two formal evaluations of each career ladder teacher by the principal or another administrator if it is a secondary school program. This year, there wUl be only one DEEP or formal evaluation and a follow-up informal evaluation to take place about three days after the |
