Pickett and Syracuse Mayor DeLore W. Thurgood will team up as candidates for chairman and vice chairman of the Davis County Republican Party. The GOP convention, at which time officers to serve a two-year term will be elected, will be held May 20 at Viewmont High School. Registration will be held at 9 a.m. with the convention scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. In addition to the chairman and vice-chairman posts, a secretary and treasurer will be elected. Mrs. Pickett is owner and manager of Servus Drug in Bountiful Boun-tiful and a longtime active civic leader. She has served as president vice president, and treasurer of the Main Street Merchants Association. She has also served as vice chairman of the Bountiful Area Chamber of Commerce and was responsible for the first brochure representing the six-city area. She served on the Council on Aging building commute for the Golden Years and Silver Age Centers, was a member of the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce Christmas Parade and Gobbler Day committees. Mrs. Pickett has been vice chairman of the Davis County Republican Party, a member of the GOP Central Committee, member of the Legislative Council, and co-chairman co-chairman of a committee to raise funds for the party. She has also been active as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Bountiful Soroptimist 1 Club, past president and long-time member of the Bountiful Business and Professional Women' s Association, Associa-tion, member of the Bountiful Rotary Club, and honorary member of the Bountiful Jaycees. , Mr. Thurgood is currently serving serv-ing his first term as mayor of Syracuse where he has lived most of his life. He graduated from Davis High School and attended Weber State College where he majored in accounting and minored in business administration. , He retired in 1985 from an ex-' ecutive position with the U.S. Air " Force after serving 34 years in the federal service. He has held several management and supervisory positions posi-tions and in 1983 was awarded tile Department of the Air Force Men- , tbrious Civilian Award for exceptional excep-tional performance. An avid sportsman, Mr. Thurgood served a two-year term as state director for the Utah Wildlife Federation. He is also an immediate . past president of the Air Force Heritage Association and is currently current-ly serving a second term as a member of the board of trustees for the North Davis Sewer District Mr. Thurgood is also serving a second appointment by Governor Bangerter to the State Industrial . Development Bond Review Board, and has served several leadership positions with the Utah League of Cities and Towns.
